OUR MISSION

Having worked in the field for almost five years now and carried out informal research, we have realised that most communities lack a community agenda. A community agenda reflects a community identity and crafts its common need leading to a common goal and vision. This is the key reason for the absence of transformation regardless of many development projects started and large amounts of resources invested in these communities. Regrettably, some development initiatives have nurtured a culture of dependence without responsibility and vision for change.

The mission statement of Possibilities Africa is to inspire Africans and African communities to build capacity for transformation.

OUR PROGRAMS

  1. COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

As mentioned earlier, many African communities although strong in their structures, face enormous challenges, the greatest of which is a a lack of a captivating community agenda. Possibilities Africa facilitates communities to construct a feasible collective agenda and equip the community to bring this vision to fruition. To achieve this, we inspire and consult with the local leadership that includes the church, administration and other opinion leaders with an aim to:

  • Empower the community’s organizing leaders and establish working teams to rally the participation of an entire community.
  • Motivate and engage communities to embrace Christian values and visionary living. This will help communities move away from practices, which hinder integral growth.
  • Equip the communities with relevant knowledge and skills to enable them set and pursue a clear community agenda.
  • Cultivating networks and partnerships through which the community will directly work with for effective implementation of goals

2.COMMUNITY CHURCH EMPOWERMENT

Churches and church leadership are to provide moral leadership and direction for any community. In most rural communities churches are under-equipped with reference to accomplishing their mandate. Possibilities Africa in Kenya works to ensure that these pastors are equipped through:

  • Training Seminars to equip pastors in rural communities with theological and leadership know-how
  • Training the Church-leadership on the role of the Church in the community.
  • Provision of material resources
  • Building networks with other churches and organization for greater capacity building.

3. ENCOURAGING BUSINESS ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The overwhelming levels of poverty in African communities requires new innovative ways  for generating income. Many young people with high school and college education but unemployment are in need of alternatives to unemployment and underemployment. Many other community members need to appreciate the value of commercializing their subsistence economic activities. Possibilities Africa aims at inspiring locals to value and pursue small scale entrepreneurship as a viable economic engagement to deal with poverty: We do this through:

  • encouraging the youth to consider business as an option to unemployment and underemployment
  • Helping communities add value to their produce through trading
  • Equipping young entrepreneurs with necessary skills for business
  • Providing spiritual and business mentorship for young entrepreneurs
  • Supporting young business start-ups to achieve sustainability
